Verizon Service Options
With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, you'll enjoy fast access to the Internet and Verizon's multimedia services (additional charges applicable), with average download speeds ranging from 400 to 700 Kbps and peak rates up to 2 Mbps. (Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.) The V Cast Music service enables you to download songs instantly to your phone, or purchase music through your PC and transfer the files to your phone. If purchased from your phone, you'll receive two copies of the song: a Windows Media Audio Pro Plus format at 64Kbps stereo is sent to your phone, and a Windows Media Audio 9 format at 160Kbps stereo is sent to your account in the V CAST Music online store for downloading to your PC. V Cast Music offers nearly 2 million songs, with more being added all the time.

In addition to the V Cast Music service, this phone is also compatible with Verizon's V CAST Music with Rhapsody, which enables you to access this exclusive digital music service for RealNetworks and for MTV Networks. V CAST Music with Rhapsody delivers unlimited monthly access to music on up to three Rhapsody-compatible mobile phones and players and online on multiple PCs and Web browsers. In addition, customers who purchase music over-the-air are able to download the master copy of the songs or albums to their PCs free of digital rights management (DRM) software that restricts how and where music can be played.

The V Cast Video service enables you to stream or download video clips to your phone from a variety of news, entertainment, sports, and weather channels, including CNN, ABC News, E!, CBS Sports, The Weather Channel, and VH1.

Verizon's Mobile eMail gives you access to your Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo Mail and AOL accounts so you can read, write, and reply. Access your address book, receive e-mail alerts and more, right on your Verizon Wireless phone. Getting on the Internet is easy using Verizon's Mobile Web 2.0 package, which allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. Verizon's Get It Now wireless download service is also fully compatible with this phone. This pay-per-download service features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads using the Get It Now service.

With this GPS-enabled phone, you'll be able to access Verizon's VZ Navigator service (additional charges applicable) for voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions, heads-up alerts, local search of nearly 14 million points of interest in the US (such as landmarks, restaurants and ATMs), and detailed color maps.

The G'zOne Boulder can be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes (orange model shown).
This phone is also compatible with Verizon's Field Force Manager service, a powerful Web-based application combined with a handset application that provides visibility and control for all of your mobile workers. It's a turnkey wireless-solutions package that's breaking new ground in resource tracking and management. It is composed of three solution modules:
  • Location and Tracking uses rich, detailed mapping to show the location and location history of field workers; provides location information when users clock in and out; shows where they are when they accept and complete jobs; creates an audit trail to validate job information for customers; and generates turn-by-turn driving directions.
  • Electronic Timecard gives employees an automated way to capture their time, and gives employers the ability to export this information into many current payroll systems for processing.
  • Job Dispatch provides an automated way to manage customer service requests, dispatch field personnel, and track job progress through completion.

5 out of 5 stars Great Durable Phone!   November 6, 2008
This phone works as advertised. Working in construction, I am hard on phones, this one is holding up great! It sounds great! Some have commented on poor sound but I have found the sound to be just fine as long as you make sure your ear is on the speaker. The battery lasts all day, no problem, however I am in the habit of charging it nightly. Reception is awesome, on remote jobsites this phone out performs everyone elses. I know some folks have had bad luck with this phone but I love it, only wish it had more memory for contacts.

4 out of 5 stars Great phone, minor problems easily solved.   September 13, 2008
I've had this phone about a week and it's what I expected it to be: rugged, waterproof, and full of features an outdoors lover will appreciate. There is a decline in sound quality over many other models, but with a waterproof layer of silicon (or whatever it is) over the mic and the speakers, what do you expect in "ruggedized" electronics? This problem can easily be solved with non-waterproof bluetooth technology. Or by simply turning down the volume. And also, the poor sound quality only occurs on about half of the calls I make. (probably depends on what phone the other person is using)

Pros:
Clearer & brighter than expected main screen.
Rugged (of course)
Compass and timer (didn't know was on the phone until I got it. :)
It's bright orange (go vols!)
push to talk is handy

Cons:
Shorter than expected battery life.
Poor sound quality on some calls.

If you're hard on phones, this one is very highly recommended.

Update:
I've had the phone for several months now, and learned that the speaker issues are at their worst in loud environments (when you increase the speaker volume) and at their least in quiet environments. Keep the volume low and you won't have any problems. In the last few hundred calls I've taken on this phone, I've had no problems hearing.
Additionally, the battery must be "broken in" now. The first month I recharged daily, but now I'm down to charging every two or three days.

1 out of 5 stars CAN'T HEAR U IN CO   September 9, 2008

If you want a phone which you can't hear the person you are talking to than this phone is for you. After programming this phone, a Verizon representative called to varify that the program was successful. While speaking with her, I honestly could barely understand a word she was saying. I thought maybe it was a bad connection with Verizon. I made numerous calls afterword to people with different networks and same problem. Needles to say it took me about 20 minutes to pack up this phone, send it back, and re-program my old cell phone. Do not waste your money on the G zone Boulder cell phone.

1 out of 5 stars Perfect, Stellar - Except for sound   September 6, 2008

This phone is close to being the best phone ever made. If only I could hear people talking to me. Sometimes it is bearable and the rest of the time, I can't understand 80% of the words the person on the other end is saying. They can hear fine. I tested it in extremely varying enviroments (Mountain, ocean, city, rural, etc) as well as two different states, always with identical results. If you read all the reviews out there you will find that is the only real complaint.

There are a couple tips out there for those having this problem:
1. VOICE PRIVACY comes "ON" in original settings - turn it off.
2. Casio claims they will soon (early September?) have an on air upgrade that may help this problem. It is in the works but has not been approved by Verizon at the time of this writing. When available you can go to "SETTINGS AND TOOLS" then "PHONE INFO" and then "SOFTWARE UPDATE". It is that easy. You don't have to go into a store to do it.

Hope it helps. I am returning my phone as I just can't understand the callers = sounds like they are talking through a tin can. Hoping they fix the problem or even better, come out with a pink one with this problem solved. Girls play too.

4 out of 5 stars tough and sleek   August 29, 2008
Before I get a new phone, I always read reviews. Overall, save the speakers, people seem to be pretty happy with this phone. The phone I was switching from was an LG Chocolate. That phone was great and I was sure I could not like another phone any better.

Well, the G'zone boulder is awesome. it is sturdy, light, sleek and sits nicely in your pocket. The speakers are not the best, but all things have their potential downers, right? I was disappointed to find out that the VZW Backup Assistant is not setup for this phone and I can only hope that is not a permanent scenario.

There are almost no specific accessories for this phone, which is a bit odd. Maybe there will be some with time.

In short, this phone is great. It has everything you need, including a camera with a flash, a port for additional memory, waterproofness (which is true! i did drop mine in a nasty puddle and the phone took that and did not flinch), decent sound, a compass (which seemed silly at the time, but is cool) and it has the push to talk stuff...if you use that.

i highly recommend it.
