I got the T-Mobile Wing to replace a Razr and it is a huge jump from the Razr which is a 'dumb' phone compared to the Wing. I got the Wing as part of a deal - 49.99 after rebates for a one year contract, which is as good as its gets.
This being my first smart phone, I was impressed with its capabilities. Finally I can club a Phone, PDA and a Music Player into one and hopefully elimnate the need to carry different instruments. The phone shipped with a set of ear phones cum mike which can be used to listen to music and also for the phone calls. However the wired set frequently gets entangled and can get irksome to use.
Some of the things I missed - a tactile feedback from the keypad, instant response to the keys (you can always see a perceptable delay when you press buttons). The call button has the tendency to get activated and calls are dialed when the phone is put in its cover.
The Windows Mobile has Pocket Word, Excel etc which is sufficient for my needs.
Wifi worked out of the box, even with various Security settings on my home wifie network, it worked well when i entered all the settings. The range of it however sucks. It works well when I am close to the router, not so well, when far away in the furthest corner of my home.
I took the Myfaves plan and thereis an option to make the myfaves icon appear on the front screen or not.
Music is synched thru Media Player on the computer and works well. I havent got around to using the play lists, but video also can be played on the phone.
The 2MP Camera is activated by the camera button on the top left of the phone. There are options for white balances, video camera mode etc. The click button is difficult to press, but what the heck. It takes reasonably good pictures.
Which brings me to the memory. the in-phone memory is not sufficient and it is necessary to buy a MicroSD card. with 1GB MicroSDs costing around 10$ an average, its a good invstment to buy a card and use in the slot.
Having the card also allows you to use additional programs. The Wing apparently has GPS compatability but I havent bought the GPS chip to test that out.
Google maps worked well out of the box, but the Google Gmail app failed due to some certificate error. still have to trouble shoot that.
I used a Jabra BT500 head set and blue tooth synched without a problem. the range between the headset and the phone is great as well.
I also had a good opportunity to compare it with the HTC 8525 (Cingular) which is similar. The pluses of the wing over the 8525 are:
1. The Wing has phenomenal battery life. the Cingular 8525 sucks in that department due to a faster processor.
2. More compact size. the 8525 looks like a brick compared to the Wing.
3. Enclosed MicroSD Cover - no chance of the card getting ejected by accident.
That said, the 8525 scores over the wing in the following areas.
1. The 8525 slider cover locks solid. The Wing's slider is flimsy. when you hold the wing in your palm. the top screen slider easily gets pushed a few mm to the side. very annoying.
2. The 8525 feels solid .
3. The 8525 has a faster processor.
4. The 8525 has a 'dial wheel' to the left, the Wing only has a volume slider. the dial wheel is more intiutive for blackberry users etc.
5. 8525's camera has a macro close up mode.
In the final reckoning, the Wing may fall short for power users, but for the first time user of a smart phone, it is a great instrument to have. especially for 50 bucks!

I don't care what anyone says, the wing is an amazing piece of gadget. The phone out of the box is good, but with a couple tweaks and elbow grease here and there, the wing is one of the best phones out there right now. The wing is really a million gadgets in one. This little wonder is a watch, calculator, portable video player, computer, iPod, tv, calendar, organizer, telephone, portable video game player, camera, video camera, etc. in one electronic package. I acquired this phone for an unbeatable price of $50. Now, if I gave you $50, can you make something comparable to this device? I didn't think so. The value of this wunderphone is unchallenged. Which is why I love this phone.
 Good ergonomics, but poor memory architecture September 18, 2007

Owned this for several weeks. Use for email, texting and taking the occasional picture.
Pros: Wifi, Bluetooth, reception, ringtones; all excellent.
Slide out keyboard makes email a snap.
Bad: Memory. This phone (with a 2 GB MicroSD card) CONSTANTLY runs out of memory. This is a major detraction to what could have been a great phone.
Not sure if it is the device or Windows Mobile 6, but you literally won't be able to use too many things at once.
Lots of forums and development going on with this device, so hopefully Microsoft or HTC will team up and issue a patch.
Worth $300? Tough call. I would have felt better if it were priced around $199.

 Far cry from the MDA September 17, 2007

I was happy with the MDA and thought this would have been an improvement on the old product. Not so. The OS is completly unstable and is constantly locks up when syncing or recieving a call. Hopefully a firmware update will be out soon to fix this. The buttons are overly sensitive and I am constantly hanging up on people or calling people inadvertantly. The grip tight coating makes it easier to hold onto, but is impossible to retreive out of your pocket if the phone is ringing. I do like the PAN capability which allows you share your EDGE internet with other BT enabled devices. It actually is quite handy. Other than that this is a dissapointment indeed.

I just upgraded to the T-Mobile Wing by HTC. I am very happy with one exception. There is a defect in the camera. A white dot annoyingly appears on the screen when I open the camera application. It was a hassle to get the phone replaced, but T-Mobile finally agreed to send a new phone without me first having to send the old phone back. However, I did have to threaten cancellation of my service to get them to agree. Why should I be without a phone, after plucking down 300 big ones? Anyway, as far as the phone goes, again I am very happy minus the setback. After using the phone for a week I have not noticed any speed issues. I usually run one application at a time, as most people do, so speed is not an issue. I read several reviews where people were concerned with the 200mhz processor being too slow, but if it adds battery life I will take that trade off. The wi-fi is a breeze to setup, and a big plus. Everywhere I go I have wi-fi so I don't have the need for the 3G network. If you don't have wi-fi, and don't mind adding to your monthly bill for 3G, you might be more happy with another phone on another network. Windows Mobile 6 is a nice upgrade over previous versions I have owned, its a more streamlined experience. The phone is definitely one of the more attractive smart phones on the market, with its deep blue rubberized skin. I think the phone is $100 overpriced at $299, considering the iphone just dropped to $399, but as happy as I am I see using this phone for quite a while.
