the idea of the phone is good, but definitely not for me!
i do love texting but i'm used to the standard keypad, not the qwerty keypad. i thought texting will be easier this way, but since it is an awkward qwerty keypad (like two letters per number or one letter per number on a key) it just didn't work with me and i started to text twice as slow. i also didn't like how 'wide' the phone was. the widest phone i had was a razor and i thought that was wide enough, so it felt a bit awkward in my hands. mostly because of the qwerty keypad i couldn't handle to be with this phone for two years, so i gave it back for a samsung katalyst instead. now i'm happy i made the switch!
it is a great phone for simple users with simple needs, but try texting on the phone at the store and see how you like it and then decide to buy it.
3 1/2 Stars May 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been using this phone for a little over a month and overall it's a pretty good phone. On regular phones I HATE predictive text because it never predicts correctly but with the hybid qwerty style its generally spot on and even remembers words and abbreviations that you have used previously. I have Comcast email and it works great with this phone, set up was as simple as entering my email address and password. I downloaded ringtone ripper and make my own ringtones. If you download it, don't chose the opt to send to phone as it will charge you on your bill, just chose create and it will create a file to save them to. I ordered an USB cord for like [...] and downloaded the PC Suite from Samsung[...] for free and it's a breeze to load the ringtones and other music. I was able to use the memory card that came with my Razr in this phone, after reformatting it, which erased all prior info but that was no biggie. My only major complaint is the battery life. After about 20-25 text messages I'm down to one bar. I've experenced some echoing, and few spots of low signal where I had no problems with the Razr. Overall rating is B+
Very pleased with this phone. May 17, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Most reviews that gave a lower rating than this phone deserves is probably due to the fact that they didn't learn how to use the phone properly (yet). For example, to the lady that doesn't know how to switch off SureType - hit the right soft key. For the other guy that doesn't know where the apostrophe is, you don't even need to go to the symbols page, just hit ALT + L.
Personally, I love this phone. Of course, I *am* a tech-savvy seventeen year old girl with small hands and can type a mile a minute, so obviously this phone doesn't cater to all needs. But if you can appreciate...
- A slim, light (fashionably black&red) design - An okay camera (what more can you expect from a phone?) - A semi-QWERTY keyboard that doesn't take long to get used to - IM and e-mail, for which you don't need a data plan to use - myFaves capability and okay service (but T-mobile has been known to suck) - Clear sound and speakerphone - Great organizational functions - Alright music player
...then this phone is for you.
Of course, not everything can be perfect. It doesn't come with a data cable OR a microSD card OR stereo earphones - which is why this only got 4 stars - so I had to get my own. Some microSD cards have been know to have compatibility problems, but if you do your research before you get one, you're good to go.
Some getting used to April 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just got my new samsung blast two days ago, and I love it! the only problem I seem to have with the phone is that I wanted to use songs that I have on my memory card for ring tones. Well the problem is that you have to move all songs to the phone and I could only move one and then the memory on the phone is full. I at least have one cool ring tone. If you decide to purchase the samsung blast don't be fooled that you can use songs on your memory card for ring tones (even though it gives an option). I called my provider and they said you have to buy an expansion pack for around $30 (1 GB) and then you will be successful. Other then that I love it. O, and getting used to the qwerty keys is interesting but I had it down in a few minutes. Also another thing to get used to is the instant type when texting. I like it but it is a new program that I will just have to get used to. Great phone for music, my mp3s sound crisp and clear. And do you want to hear something interesting? I live in a dead zone and was thinking about buying a Nokia because they seem to get better service. Well, I get better service with my samsung than my friend does with her nokia! I'm glade I made the right choice. O and I should add that I am new to t-mobile and so far love it! I was a 4 year alltel customer and am happy already that I have moved to t-mobile. One great perk, I am saving 20 some dollars a month with a better plan.
Memory Card issue April 15, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The phone is great, esp with the expandable microsd slot you can have tons of music to play which also provides a way (free of charge, compared to those you have to use wireless service to transfer data between your phone and online account) for you to transfer pictures/videos you've taken with the phone to you computers or wherever you like it.
Had it not been so picky on memory cards, I would've had given it 5 stars. I bought a Kingston 2GB microSD card from buy.com and inserted it into the phone: it didn't work. the phone didn't recognize the content though it knew it's card or sort. Then I googled all comments on the card issue with Blast and some said his/her Lexar card worked just fine. OK, yesterday I went to buy one at a local store. Voila! It just worked like charm. Unfortunately, I don't have a full list of compatible cards/brands, but let me spread this out: Lexar 1GB microSD does work with Samsung Blast. Of course, Lexar makes no cheap memory cards. The one I bought costed me $20 for 1GB. But it's all worth it:)
