| Customer Reviews:
Motorokr-Good for some things, not so good for others October 29, 2008 I've been using my MOTOROKR for about two months now and am normally using it on my 25 minute ride on an Express Rapid Transit bus to work. I have had very few dropouts in that mode since I am sitting and not moving around much. However, if I decide to walk and listen, the whole scene changes! I get dropouts about every 10 feet. I have the IPod in a carrying case attached to my belt loop and have even tried it in my shirt pocket, but that does not eliminate the dropouts, just reduce their frequency. As has been stated in some reviews here, the Bluetooth standard is 30 ft but on a human body that range is evidently reduced to less than two feet for a consistent signal. Prior to purchasing the MOTOROKR, I attempted to question Motorola customer service personnel about the effect of wearing the IPod and sender on the body and they said there "could" be interference generated by the body which would cause reception problems. Since there is an IPod arm band furnished with the MOTOROKR kit, you would think they would have designed the unit to be less sensitive to human "interference", but I guess that was too much to ask for product perfection prior to marketing. These days, as clearly evidenced by Bill Gates and Company, the user is required to Beta test product at full price and then submit faults and design flaws to the company for possible inclusion in future releases. Let's not qualify a product to work properly the first time, that would be too expensive and cut into our bottom line!
As for phone capabilities, I have a Motorola Razr V3 which pairs every time with the MOTOROKR. Using it for phone conversations is another thing. When you receive a call, the phone rings in the left earbud. You then press the highest raised button on the left side to answer the phone. This does not always work. Several times I have inadvertently disconnected the call before establishing communication with the caller. Even if communication is established, reception is poor at best especially on the caller's end. A bus is a rather noisy environment and this noise competes for your voice so I sometimes use my right hand to "channel" my voice to the microphone in the right earbud area. That still does not guarantee a quality phone conversation. Bottom line: The MOTOROKR works fairly well for its intended purpose, but for the cost is not a good value. My intention for buying it was the elimination of the standard earbuds and accidental pulling of an earbud out of the ear when turning the head, which the MOTOROKR does accomplish that goal. If I were to attempt to jog with the IPod located any place but strapped to my head next to the MOTOROKR, it would probably have more severe dropouts.
Wireless Freedom October 23, 2008 I found these in retail packaging for $0.01 on Amazon (price error?). I use them constantly at the gym and love them! I sweat quite a bit and have not experienced any issues with the product not working due to that. The range is quite good and I can walk across the gym to get stuff to clean my machine without any interruption in the music. They do pinch and slide a little, and turning one's head makes these seem a bit cumbersome at the back of the neck.
They are also great for working in the yard, though not quite as loud as I need them while using the blower and I think the engine creates some interference. I heard that there is now a Motorokr-S9-HD which I'll have to check out.
I tried using these as a hands-free headset for my cell phone, but the caller on the other end said there was way too much background noise and that I was very inaudible. But I didn't buy these for my cell phone.
Overall, great product to free the iPod from annoying wires.
Good sound quality, bad craftsmanship October 18, 2008 I own these headphones, the sound quality is great, I had it for a good hour, before the buttons stopped working. I called at&t and filed a warranty replacement this happened about 12 times. the microphone is an ambient mic, so it picks up everything within ten feet. it's a cool design but it needs a solid body
Great Sound Quality October 18, 2008 Great headset for the money. They connect very easily to my LG Chocolate and the sound quality is great. But when I go to connect them to my Macbook the quality is not as good. This is most likely a problem with the Macbook not having a great bluetooth card, but it still is annoying to be listening with this headset and having the sound cut out every once in a while.
S9 Motorokr Headphones October 17, 2008 I've owned my headphones for a little over 13 months. They worked fine until last week they stopped charging and won't turn on. Motorola's warranty expires at 12 months so I'm on my own with this. I did like being able to go wireless, but will not buy another product that fails so quickly and without support. I recommend looking elsewhere.
