2 out of 5 stars Forget Video on this phone!   July 21, 2008

Purchased a 4GB SD Chip for this phone, downloaded a 400MB TV show, tried to watch, got to the 1 and a half minute mark of a 59 minute show, and the phone read: "Not enough memory for application."

Wuzzup wit dat? I purchased a 4 GB SD chip for a REASON, Motorolla! This phone was rated #5 on CNET's "Best Cell Phones" catagory!

I guess "Best Cell Phone" doesn't mean "Working Video on a Cell Phone", right?

SHAME on putting video on a cell phone that can't handle it, Motorolla! If only you had "done the right thing" and kept video capability off the Moto Z9, I WOULDN'T HAVE HAD ANY EXPECTATIONS THAT IT WOULD WORK!!!

Only 2 stars since, I feel if a cell phone has certain features they should work. Reception IS clear, however I'd ALSO expect less dropped calls for a 2 hundred dollar phone.

5 out of 5 stars Great Phone   July 16, 2008
I've had this phone now for 3-4 months. A huge upgrade from my previous Samsung (Sprint) phone. I'm not a big tech user. I don't download ringtones, watch movies on my phone, or really know what "3G" means. What is important to me are the ease of the phone, call clarity, looks (of course), and durability. The phone is easy to use. Never really even bothered with the manual. Navigation is simple on the very clear, bright screen. Menus are easy to navigate and follow. The call clarity is excellent. 100% better than my Samsung. I'm not too sure if it's the phone or AT&T but my calls are now clear and I get service where I did not get before with my Samsung/Sprint phone. The look of the phone is great. I've had several people remark how great the phone looks. A very nice dark, rich red. As a guy I was a bit concerned about getting a "red" phone, but this phone looks gorgeous. It feels good too. Nice weight. Feels very sturdy. When the phone slides open it just feels "good". Can't explain it any other way. The battery life seems to be excellent. I can easily go two days on a single charge. So far the phone has been very durable.

Now if you're into 3G stuff, GPS, video calls and all... I can't tell you if this phone is good or not. I just don't use my phone for that. If you text alot you probably should get a phone that has a small keyboard.

The only minor complaint I have is the power cord that I use to recharge the phone. The connection is tiny and the connection head is rhomboid shaped. I sometimes have to struggle about 5-10 seconds trying to connect it to the phone. A better shape would have been just a plain circular head. This is a very minor complaint, but it can be slightly annoying.

4 out of 5 stars I'm loving it so far   June 25, 2008

(note:previous comments under Gerry as to how I actually got this phone)

In the midst of waiting for this phone I had purchased an LG Shine for my niece....which she promptly "got stole" aka lost. I had another Shine delivered to my house. I was vacillating myself between the Z9 and a black Shine. I almost changed my order to the Shine because I could not fathom waiting 2-8 weeks for this phone. I waited 1 1/2 weeks and it was getting unbearable (I lack the patience gene). So I have been playing with her Shine. Or should I say...cussing the hell out of this Shine. I can't transfer anything to the memory card! The phone is fairly solid but not quite solid enough. It has beautiful graphics, but the exterior gets dirty easily. So considering what I've spent so far, it's a bust. It's nice enough but not awesome.

So I get my Z9 today. Menus seem clear and simple enough. I'm coming off 5 previous Nokias over the past 10 years, my last Nokia was a 6102i and let me say if they had put an SD card slot on it it would have been perfection for me. I really do love my Nokia and I like simple, easy to use phones with a hint of fun. But it's obsolete with its 4MB memory (I wish I was joking). The screen is beautiful. I put in my 4 GB microSD card...not nar a problem, it has easily been recognized by my computer and is ready to go (it's downloading as we speak!) The exterior is nice, the color really is not as bright red as you see in these pictures, it's very rich looking. I'm not having any problems with the keyboard (the Shine bugs me more with the lip at the bottom). I think this is a wonderful upgrade, really nice introduction to Motorola for me, the RAZRs just didn't catch my eye but this phone has a very classy look to it.

I put my little case on it to keep it clean and it snapped right on. I put my SIM card in and it's been nothing but go! I'm foreseeing good things with this phone, I even signed up for a Media Net bundle. I think I made a good choice.

I took a star away because it is rocking a bit on the hinges and that made me uneasy. Still not as unsturdy as the SHINE. Also it has a tendency to want to get really, really dirty already.

2 out of 5 stars GPS is not that good   June 11, 2008

The GPS was really really too slow to get the initial signal... changing settings for the phone was not that easy...UI is ok other than that it is a good phone.

1 out of 5 stars Out Of Stock -- forget it!   June 1, 2008

I almost purchased this phone and contract through Amazon but found out at the end it would take 2-4 weeks since they're out of stock. Well, I CAN't wait 2-4 weeks. My phone is dying and that's why I need a new one! The deal sounds good, but it's useless if they have no phones available so I'm back to AT&T.
