only pairs with one receiver January 4, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was hoping to place the transmitter in front of my TV and listen thru bluetooth headphones or earphones. This works, up to 40 feet if you keep the antenna side of the headset facing the transmitter. But, it ONLY WORKS/PAIRS WITH ONE RECEIVER AT A TIME. This information is finally found in small print in the middle of a page just before troubleshooting section of the manual. so my son and i can't watch TV together with separate headphones after my wife is in bed which was the reason for purchasing this device in the first place.
Not great with a lot of 2.4GHz devices January 1, 2009 This adapter does what it says it will do, that is, allow you to connect bluetooth A2DP devices to a line input or output. I use it as an interface between my phone and my stereo. It seems to do OK, but I have to keep the phone physically line of site. I think this has more to do with my location than the unit itself, as I have a lot of wireless networks near me (I live in an apartment). I don't have this problem with headphones, but that's due to them being a few inches away. I may get one of these for my car as well, where I think it will perform much better. I also found it works better laying on its side instead of in the vertical stand. Try experimenting with different positioning if you are having problems.
The unit I bought is a factory refurbished unit. The output jack seems to be a little loose, if I move it there's a lot of noise. Like the doctor said to the guy who complained his arm hurt when he moved it a certain way, I just won't do that -it is designed to be stationary anyway. But I would expect more from Sony, even a factory refurb. I would likely send it back if I had paid full price.
The only other minor complaint I have is the LEDs are way too bright for a dark room. In theory I should be able to cover it with some black tape and leave it on all the time, using the phone to connect and disconnect, but it would be nice if the LEDs weren't set to cataract mode.
Sonically, it works as expected. A2DP audio is a compressed format, although not as much as most MP3 files. My abused ears think it sounds just fine, but not as good as a CD playing through my DVD player with optical output. If that's your standard, don't bother with this (or any other wireless format). It is just fantastic for streaming audio from an Internet radio station to my stereo, since the stations I listen to are using AAC+ or OOG and sound at least as good as a decent FM station. Prior to this I had a long headphone extension cable that tended to pick up a little hum. I cannot tell the difference switching back and forth, except for not having any hum on the adapter.
Overall, worth it, and don't be afraid of getting a refurbished unit. It came complete, with manual, stand, power adapter and short 3.5mm-3.5mm cable, but in a cardboard box instead of a blister pack or shiny paper box.
Blue tooth transmitter for TV December 26, 2008 Excellent product that works very well with my bluetooth hearing aids. Only problem was that the connecting wire that came with it did not fit my TV. A quick trip to radio shack fixed that problem. I'm very happy with it and the seller.
Sony Bluetooth Adapter December 17, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I found this product pretty useless and overpriced.
First, I tried to use it with my car stereo as it is advertised for a car stereo, but it requires an AC outlet. I guess my car is an odd one because it is not hooked to the grid and have a household outlet; maybe in the future. Perhaps your boat has a 110 AC outlet; not.
Second I tried to use it with my home stereo. I thought I could send a signal from my computer or cell phone to my home stereo to play the music stored on my computer/device. Wrong again as my home stereo did not have a mini jack input, only a jack out for headphones. Since this Bluetooth device did not have RCA jacks it did not work for this purpose.
Thirdly, I thought I could use it to transmit a Bluetooth signal from my home computer and use my headphones. Well, this might have been a good idea however, I found a Bluetooth adapter on Amazon for a third the price that used a USB port, was the size of my thumbnail and did not require an AC outlet. Three strikes and this thing is out of here.
Save your money and get a Bluetooth USB adapter and a pair of Bluetooth headphones for a little more than this things costs alone.
I suppose if you want to hook it to your home stereo via the headphone jacks and transmit to some headphones it would be good for this purpose. I truly cannot see any other purpose for this thing other than that. For most if not all other purposes there is a better alternative.
work with my Plazma TV December 12, 2008 I installed the device with my Plazma TV, it works fine with all my Bluetooth headset with clear sound.
