It offers a wide assortment of format compatibility for both audio and video, an FM transmitter for playing audio over an FM radio, and personalized streaming radio from Pandora Mobile. And with a dedicated music key and multitasking capability, you can run another application while you listen to music. It operates on Sprint's North American CDMA voice network, as well as on Sprint's Mobile Broadband Network (EV-DO), which enables you to quickly access audio, video and data applications. Other features include a MicroSD memory card slot, 1.3-megapixel camera/camcorder, Bluetooth stereo streaming, POP3 email support, and full duplex speakerphone.
Dedicated music keys allow easy access to your tunes, as well as enable use of the phones multitasking feature. | Supporting the EV-DO high-speed data standard, the Muziq is fully compatible with Sprint's Power Vision service. With Power Vision, you can download and stream high-quality video, straight onto your phone. Enjoy full-color video clips or live TV of the latest news, sports, and entertainment from brands you know, like CNN, Fox, The Weather Channel, NFL Mobile, and more. Power Vision also serves as a portal for enhanced games. Where coverage is available, EV-DO connectivity provides average download speeds ranging from 400 to 700 Kbps, with peak rates up to 2 Mbps. Sprint's music service is another EV-DO-powered service that makes the Muziq all the more desirable. With the Sprint Music Store, your phone is a music player, letting you buy, download, and then jam out wherever you are with new songs or old favorites. Offering a growing selection of more than 1.6 million songs, the store provides you two copies of each song--one for the phone and another for the PC, as well as the ability to burn songs to a CD using Windows Media Player. Save your songs to a MicroSD memory card with a capacity that's right for you (it supports capacity up to 4 GB). Focused on music playback, the LG LX-570 Muziq has a dedicated music controller on the front of the phone that's designed to allow easy access to your music, as well as an easy way to use your multitasking feature to put your music in the background or bring it to the foreground. It supports a wide variety of audio and video formats (MP3, MP4, 3G2, 3GP, AAC, AMR, MID, QCP, 3GPP, PMD, M4V, M4A, KOZ). In addition to personal listening through wired (3.5mm jacks) or wireless (Bluetooth) headphones, the phone also includes a built-in FM transmitter that enables you to transmit tunes wirelessly through any FM radio within 10 feet (with your choice of an open frequency, from 88.1 to 107.9 MHz).
Easily pocketable, the Muziq measures just 0.61 inches thin and weighs 3.14 ounces. | Stream music to your phone with Sprint Radio, offering over 30 channels of both music and talk radio--from Hip Hop and Latin Pop to NPR. And with Pandora Mobile, a downloadable application, you can get personalized streaming radio by entering a favorite artist or song and automatically receive a radio station with songs that have similar qualities. This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity, and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, audio/video remote control, and printing. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. Other features include a self timer and customizable shutter/cue sound. Almost the perfect cell phone December 11, 2008 Here is a breakdown of what I feel is ALMOST a perfect phone. Of course there is no such thing as perfect, but we're coming close. This phone definitely above average as far as capabilites and features.
Features: This phone has a nice variety of features. Sprint, however, doesn't make all the ones I list super easy to unlock:
-You can create custom ring tones with your own mp3s. -You can put videos on a microSD card and watch them on your phone (I have a 4gb), although the screen is rather small. You can access these with Memory Card Manager. -You can put mp3s on your phone (via the microSD card). One of the downfalls of this feature is the limited use of Sprint Music Store as an mp3 application/player. There are no shuffle features and nor organization of mp3s - an all around sucky music player as you have to organize the audio files yourself (in the uploading program). While this is annoying, it is not a big problem for me as I just import audio books onto my phone and make sure to upload them in the correct order. -There are a vast number of games available from the internet that can be uploaded to your phone, however, beware of data charges for ANYTHING that you download to your phone. I believe it is 3 cents per kilobyte. If you really want to dump a bunch of games on your lg muziq, i'd recommend getting the data plan. It was five dollars a month for free downloading (call sprint).
Battery: Battery life is average. Lots of calling usage + games will give me 1 day of battery life. 2-3 days if minimal calling/mp3/games are used. I have ran out of battery in public on multiple occasions, considering to purchase an additional battery.
Interface: Nice, simple, customizable. I have photos of my friends in the front lcd display as well as the inside screen. You can change the menu, icons, and background relatively easily.
Signal: I live in a hilly area and signal usually works. Sometimes it works crummy. However, I like that there is an option to reset the satellite signal, this usually brings back the signal bars.
Bluetooth: Haven't had a problem with bluetooth use. Easy to connect and signal.
Camera: Not the greatest quality. Good maybe for emergencies to capture a disaster if you have no other way or to mess around with your phone screen saver. Not good for concerts or anywhere dark. If this is one of your factors in getting the phone, I would pass this up.
Other: There is also some interesting programs like Music Composer where you can create midi file if you know how. Alarm clock is also handy, works loud and well. Many more to explore.
Overall an awesome phone with more features than I need in a phone. Some features are picky, but can be tolerated with some getting used to. Some features I mentioned would not be in the manual, rather floating on the internet(do some research!).
Nothing but trouble December 6, 2008 This phone has been nothing but trouble. I've had to swap it out for a replacement 3 times and I've had to buy 3 different chargers since the chargers seem to come with shorts in them and are easily broken. When charging the phone you have to position the phone just right to charge or the connector wont work, also the side slots to the charger are way to thin, I have to use a screwdriver to flip open the charging cover. This phone is a hassle and a piece of junk.
Inexpensive functionality imperfectly implemented for the Audiophile... August 31, 2008 I have had this phone for about a year. Just wanted to add my two cents regarding my experience. Use it about every day for music- and the phone.
First, I am a Mac user. Another reviewer noted that one could not use the Sprint Music software- USB cable to sync music from the Mac to this phone. Yes, indeed. However, loading music onto the Muziq is best done- quickly & most easily- by using a mini-SD card reader & a 4 gb. SD mini card memory stick. This can be done quite easily on the Mac. However, you will need to know how to create a mu3 playlist. I would be happy to give instruction on how to do this on the Mac.
Now, 4 gb. is a fair amount of music- and the main reason why I have this phone. It is a convenient substitute for the $150 or so IPod Nano. At least in that it holds the same amount of music. Further, it offers bluetooth capability, a music transmitter, and, of course, a phone- that the venerable IPod just can't provide. It however, should not be considered as an IPod substitute. Let me explain.
The bluetooth capability is great. However, it is not always reliable. There are many times when it takes me several minutes to pair the phone to the headphones. And, there are times when the pairing will deteriorate on its own. It is annoying- but also can be rectified. The distance I can travel from the phone- using a Plantronics stereo headset- is about 10-15 ft. The sound quality is excellent. However, there is no way to adjust treble & base. And, if your headphones are substandard- the music will be too.
The music transmitter is a nice touch. However, my phone needs to be within 3 ft. of the receiving radio in order for it to work. This means that it will not transmit to the typical car stereo. Again, the sound can be quite good- depending upon the transmitter receiving the signal.
It is also appreciated that the Muziq does have a speaker. The sound from the mono speaker is surprisingly good.
However, the Sprint LG Muziq does have some significant drawbacks. The major one being the Sprint Music Store application. It is slow loading. Particularly if your music is recorded at a high bit rate. In other words, I learned the hard way that having music recorded at bit rates above 128 kb. results in serious penalties in load time. But, even more damming, is the way in which the Sprint music application makes you play your music.
It is extremely cumbersome to listen to music without a preset play list. This means that you must make play lists. I have about 1,000 128 kb. songs on my player. To make play lists on the phone itself is really not possible given a library this size. The only way to do so is on your computer- and transmit the music and play lists to the Muziq using the 4 gb memory card.
Since you can not mix and play songs & play lists on the fly- it should not be considered an Ipod replacement. And, the Muziq's usefulness as a music player depends a great deal on one's ability to plan and create engaging play lists. One can use the shuffle feature to change the order of music within a play list- which does reduce the tendency of the play lists to become stale.
And, for those who have interest- Sprint Music does have radio channels which may add to your listening pleasure. I did not think it worth the additional, monthly cost.
So, the upshot is that for my needs- at this time- the Muziq has been adequate for me- needing an MP3 player/phone combination. However, when my contract is up a year from now- I will certainly change my player. Either I will switch to ATT and the IPhone- or, if that proves too expensive in continuing costs- will spring for a dedicated music player & get a cheap, serviceable, no frills phone. Either way, I will need a player that more competently plays my music. The hardware on the Muziq is fine- not so the software.
That reminds me. One of the reasons one might want a dedicated music player is because of the battery drain playing music may have on your phone. You may either find yourself not being able to listen to music as much as you want- or conversely, not be able to use your phone to talk as you might wish. Fortunately, for the Muziq- the battery life is pretty good. One can easily listen to up to 5 hours without the battery being drained. A key here- to reduce battery drain- is to make sure that the phone is set to utilize only the Sprint network for calls. If you allow roaming- it will eat your battery life!
Hope this helps those considering buying this phone!
Sprint Customer Service is the WORST July 15, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
A word about Sprint: They used to be the best, and they are now the worst. The absolute worst.
If you call them today, July 15'th 2008, the system will acually tell you to call back later and HANG UP. You will get through the prompts until you are given a wait-time and then.. I'm not surprised at all. They got rid of 80 % of their customer service workforce.
Things have appeared on my bill for a year that shouldn't be there. I have made 5 attempts to fix this and finally gave up. They always say it's fixed but never is. Plan on at least a two-hour call to get something accomplished and then prepare yourself to be utterly crazed with anger when you see that nothing was actually done (several times). A telemarketer from Sprint called me trying to sell something and extend my contract, I laughed so hard, that she actually tried to fix my problems. She said she did and of course, it's still on my bill. They're really useless.
I'm turning off my phone today... That'll take at least 3 hours.
Was great, Now Terrible! July 15, 2008 I bought this for my daughter, and it was pretty sweet until a couple of months ago (Spring 2008). Then her phone would not connect to make phone calls. We had a replacement policy, so we had the phone replaced, but the replacement phone does the same thing. My older Fusic phone has no problems...what a shame!
Just says "Looking for Service" most of the time which eats up the battery. If you do get to a strong service area, it will connect, but then drop you within a minute or so.
This used to be our best phone, now it is our worst, and with the second phone, I am starting to think Sprint did something to their network and now the phone will not connect. We have tried Roam, Automatic, and Sprint network settings and none of them work.
