 MP3 player not good August 20, 2008
The phone by itself is alright, of course it has the same generic Verizon GUI which makes all their cellphones look the same! Still has a lot of features and I haven't had any problems with the call quality. The earpiece is a little weak, speakers are fine. It has the tactile keypad which makes dialing easy. I had hopes to use this phone also as an mp3 player however the sound quality is not acceptable compared to my Iriver (an old one). I used an 8G memory card and it syncs very nicely with WMP 11 and I could fit more that 1000 songs in it. Volume is loud but only 7 steps, you get a lot of midrange which makes it sound like an AM radio.
I belive if there was a 5 band equalizer and a 30 step volume control the sound could be more pleasant, however Vcast is very raw in this regard.
I will have to carry my mp3 player with me for now!

I just replace my 5200, junk. Sorry for those of you who have them.
I have own motorola with AT&T have had a lot of phones over the years.
The biggest problem with any phone is you can't hear them or they can't hear you.
Or you run a 50 yard dash to get the call. With this phone you are in for a happy surprise!!
You will be able to hear a call everywhere your are and they will hear you.
Depatment stores, warehouse stores, school buildings, power line fill highways.
Okay I have not been in the smokey mountains with this phone Yet:).i

Pros you can talk. That is why a phone was invented.
Yes you can text. Picture quality good a flash may or may not help.
Great for outdoor shots and you can edit on the phone.
Music I just listen to it at the store.
The speaker is very good and loud.
If you need a phone that will work as one of the best phone going, buy this.
If you need a great camera? Buy a camera.
Music, it will sound okay but it is not a sound system it is a phone with nice features.
Cons
Buttons are to close together for adult fingers. You will hit the clear key more than you want to.
But not when making or receiving a call. just when playing with the fun none important stuff;)

What's good vs what's bad July 24, 2008
Three and one-half stars, actually, but I rounded up. The phone itself is sleek, lightweight and suits my taste, so I give it very high marks.. The exterior buttons (camera, voice activation and volume) are easy to push when they're being used--and too easy to push when the phone is in one's pocket. The phone is accidentally turned on throughout the day, but automatically shuts off again after 7 seconds, so it's not a threat to battery life. I also like the large, high contrast fonts for the exterior clock and for dialed numbers. I could never see the numbers on my old phone when I was outside . This phone solves that problem.
The worst feature is the Verizon software. The voice activation feature, supposedly improved, is pretty awful. My old LG phone was far superior. After programming a name to call on the old phone, it worked perfectly almost every time. This new LG LX-8350 gets it w-r-o-n-g almost every time. The phone is supposed to read your typed contacts, but it mispronounces everything and therefore does not recognize correct pronunciation. Ironically, it can't even understand the word "Verizon" unless you type it in as "Vriyson" and even that's pushing it. I've talked to at least 10 Verizon reps about it. One rep said the only name it gets right is his girlfriend's. Only two Verizon reps out of 10 were helpful in trying to figure out a way to get the voice recognition to work better. There are some settings to fiddle with and along with typing my contact's names phonetically it's working a bit better now. Hint: add extra consonants to words and try to avoid the letter "i" unless you want it to rhyme with "tree". The Verizon menus are dreadful and not customizable for the most part. Words like Prompts, Alerts, and Read Outs are menu options that aren't explained anywhere, but appear in several places--and the Verizon folks that I've spoken to don't know what they mean either. Yes, there are loads of features--I think this phone does everything!-- but without it being customizable, way too much time is spent pushing buttons and backspacing.
The speaker is a little more shrill than my old LG, but it's not too bad. Reception is good, even though the antenna is hidden. If there ever is a software upgrade, I'll take it.
Good phone, adequate access to web July 3, 2008
I've used cell phones the old-fashioned way, primarily for phone calls, but wanted to add rudimentary access to the mobile web. This phone works very well for the former, and well enough for the latter. I just bought this phone, so these are my first impressions.
I have a few minor complaints:
1) There are buttons on almost every surface, so you have to be careful how you grab the phone. Otherwise, you might activate camera mode or voice-command mode by mistake.
2) As others have mentioned, it's easy to accidentally hit the "clear" key while pressing the "down" key.
3) On my previous phones (Nokia), the alarm clock function worked even if the phone was turned off; but on the VX8350, the alarm won't function unless the phone is turned on.
4) There's no quick way to lock the keyboard in order to prevent accidental key presses from having an effect.
The mobile web access is adequate for my use, although a serious web user would want another phone (such as a Blackberry or iPhone). The speed is fine, but the small screen size limits its usefulness. I'm new to the mobile web. I was at first disappointed by the Verizon web menu and search function (which seems useless), but figured out how to use the phone more effectively:
1) Bring up the mobile web (by pressing the "up" key), and select item 9, "favorites".
2) Create "favorite" entries for a few mobile web sites such as the following:

wapedia dot mobi slash en slash (mobile Wikipedia)
cantoni dot mobi (links to useful mobile sites)
Then use these favorites as your portal to the web, and ignore the rest of the Verizon menu.
You can also bring up any URL directly, although the procedure is not obvious at first glance. (In mobile web mode, hit right soft key and select item 4, "go to URL".)
The optional microSD card is not needed for basic use, but would be required if you store a lot of stuff (songs, photos) on the phone, or if you want an easy way to transfer photographs from the phone to a computer (or transfer music files and ringtones from a computer to the phone).
Not Great. . . June 26, 2008

Alright. Well... I purchased this phone about a month and a half ago, and right from the start I knew it would not last long.
On the first day, I liked the fact that the phone had the text reading on the front, and the inside screen's display was pretty nice. But, it is not built sturdily and the picture quality is not great.
About a week and a half after getting the phone, I dropped it for the first time. It was only on my wood floor, and only about a one foot drop. This drop, however, made my phone substantially different. The camera was worse, and the front screen started to come off. I have seen people throw their phone (such as the LG enV) against walls over and over again and nothing happened. I immediately thought I should get another phone, but due to high prices, did not.
Now I have had the phone for about a month and a half, and I have dropped it a total of 3 more times. Once on rocks. The front screen works, but looks terrible from one fall on rocks. The paint is scratched and it looks significantly worse. Yesterday, as I was biking, the phone slipped out of my pocket (and it is a very slippery phone, due to the design), and fell into a small puddle of water. The puddle was small, and only about half an inch deep. I picked it up and continued biking. I did not check whether or not it was functioning correctly until abuot 3 minutes later when I had stopped for a water break. I pressed the button on the front and the screen did not light up. I opened it up and it was off. I tried turning it on, and it did not work. So, I removed the battery and began drying it. The battery was not damaged by the water, I later noticed. The screen, however, was greatly hurt. I kept drying the phone, then flipping it closed. Each time I opened it, I noticed there was more water inside, not much, but about 2 drops. I though deep and hard about what could have happened. Then, it came to me that water must have gotten into the front cover, in the spot where it came off a bit. I tried sucking anything I could out of the open cover, but it did not work. I put it in my pocket, and continued my ride. About 20 minutes later, I opened the phone and tried powering it on once again. It started to come on, but shut back off. At this time I noticed the screen, both front and inside, were water damaged. I tried turning the phone on again about 5 minutes later, and it came on to my surprise. There was something wrong though. Actually, there were many things wrong. The battery was almost dead (or so it said), the speaker would not work, the camera was ruined, and it could not get ANY reception whatsoever. I turned it back off and rode home.
Today, the phone, after the course of the day, was drying out slightly. The battery was fine, as I presumed. The front screen is now partially functional. The camera is still very bad. The speaker is working about 25% of the time, but by working, I mean playing all my sounds slowly and very low pitched. The speaker also randomly stops working, but the phone stays on. The screens look almost perfect, if not better than before, other than the scratches on the front. As for the reception, I still have none, and it angers me. I have a feeling that the water got into the antenna (located in the top of the phone), and damaged it beyond repair. I am hoping that it will dry out more and work once again.

I do NOT recommend purchasing this phone, as it will only end in disappointment. My experiences are similar to those of my friend who also had this phone, and now owns the LG enV2. Do NOT buy this phone.
