Amazon.com Product Description
The SCH-a930 does so many things so well you'll wonder how you ever got by without it. This mid-range CDMA phone sports a slick clamshell design with an internal antenna, OLED outer display, and media keys on the front. Key features include EVDO high-speed data, a microSD memory card slot, Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera, and a speakerphone.

Packed with features, the a930 still measures up nicely. See it in 3D.
Design
The a930 features a traditional clamshell design with an internal antenna and a 1.3 megapixel digital camera. The vibrant 176 x 220 color display supports up to 262,144 colors, and there's also a supplementary 4-shade blue 176 x 16 OLED display that shows call information, signal strength, and more. A TransFlash/microSD memory card slot is placed on the left side of the phone, media player control keys are placed on the front, and a stereo headset jack is placed on the right. Meanwhile, the front of the phone houses the camera unit. A USB data port is also provided.

Calling Features
The a930 boasts powerful calling functions, such as an integrated speakerphone that makes it easy to converse without touching the handset--a big plus for car users. Meanwhile, speaker independent voice dialing makes it easy to call contacts by simply saying their names. No prior voice training is required and you can even speak individual digits to the phone for quick dialing of numbers you know by heart. And because the a930 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total hands free operation.

The a930's internal memory can hold up to 500 contacts for quick access to email addresses and phone numbers. The phone lets you easily assign pictures as well as ringtones to your most common callers. In addition to vibrating alerts, the phone supports polyphonic ringtones, as well as recorded ringtones you make yourself. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone and more ringtones can be downloaded from Verizon's Get It Now service. Lastly, the a930's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911.

The phone features media control keys for getting the most out of V Cast Music. Learn more about V Cast Music.
Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The phone's support for multimedia messaging means that text, photos, video and audio can be sent with ease (Verizon messaging charges apply). When used in combination with the a930's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. There's also a built-in web browser for downloads and mobile web browsing. Verizon's optional Mobile Web 2.0 package allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. You can check your e-mail, trade stocks online, compare prices while shopping, access flight information, get movie listings and find directions to the theater. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

The a930 is fully compatible with Verizon's V Cast service. With V Cast, you can download and stream high-quality video. Need news and weather? Get the latest Accuweather forecast delivered right to your handset, or stream CNN news headlines. ESPN sports updates, entertainment news from E!, and even Sesame Street content for the kids, are all available. V Cast also serves as a portal for enhanced 3D games, making it possible to have more fun with a new breed of realistic games.

Verizon's music service makes the a930 all the more desirable. With V Cast Music, your phone is a music player, letting you jam out wherever you are. It's also a music store, and you can download songs instantly to your phone. Save your songs to a memory card with a capacity that's right for you. You can even pause to take a call without missing a beat.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the a930 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock.

Imaging and Entertainment
Groundbreaking digital imaging capabilities are what set the a930 apart from other phones in its class. The 1.3 megapixel camera features an LED flash and a rotating lens. With the a930, you'll never have to worry about forgetting your digital camera again. Just point and shoot. It's that easy. The a930 can capture video, too-- up to ten minutes of it!

When it's time to share your photos, the a930's Bluetooth printing capabilities couldn't make it any easier, just send your photos to any Bluetooth, or USB enabled printer.

And if the imaging capabilities of the a930 are not enough, the a930 also includes a built-in music player that lets you queue up your favorite V Cast tracks, or tracks in your personal collection.

1 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk   March 18, 2008

I have had more problems with this phone than any other. It worked great for the first few months I had it, then for no reason it just stopped working. It cannot receive calls; when people call me it doesn't ring. I remove the back cover, take the battery out, and power it back up, then I see all these voice mails and messages that it has failed to receive for the past couple days. I just took it in to have the service updated by Verizon, but it still doesn't work. The music player is another annoying feature; it only plays wma's so you will spend hours converting all of your mp3's if you want to listen to them. It also glitches out like a scratched CD when listening to the songs. Also this is VERY annoying; when you turn the phone's volume to silent, it only controls the volume of the ringer and not the music player. Since the "play" button protrudes from the front of the phone, it always gets bumped in your pocket and starts blaring out music, leading to embarrassing moments in movie theaters, job interviews, etc. The speaker phone button is right on the side of the phone where your fingers would naturally grip the phone, so you frequently end up turning on the speaker phone while in the middle of talking to someone. My brother has the same phone and the camera on his stopped working for no reason. VERY poor design.

3 out of 5 stars Battery is temperamental   October 16, 2007
This phone is okay but at least once a month, I will fully charge it and then have it die a few hours later. This especially seems to happen when roaming. Disappointing.

4 out of 5 stars Great functional budget phone   August 9, 2007
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

I obtained this phone after my previous contract ended and i found this to be a good little budget phone. I obtained one of the first ones and i primarily use this as a cell phone and not a music player. I've had this phone since July of 2006 and i'm still very pleased with it.

Pros:
Appearance - i think it looks sharp for a cheaper phone. The internal antenna helps for fitment in pockets and whatever holders.
Function - Separate features for vibrate and call volume, so you can always have it on vibrate and adjusting the call volume to your preference (as i like to have it). Speaker phone works well, clear, and it quite easy to use. Bluetooth enabled and works well with my jabra bluetooth headset. Attached covers for all of the open ports. This may not seem important, but i once dropped an old phone and dirt was lodged into the battery terminal and forced me to buy a new phone, and it also keeps the phone looking uniform and clean. Battery life is also pretty good (lasts about 3-4 days with occassional conversations and text messages) and is quick to charge (empty to full charge in less than 1.5 to 2 hours).
Durability - i've dropped this thing many times and it still functions fine with no exterior lcd's to crack.

Cons:
Camera - the 180* rotation is really only good in two positions since you have to open the phone to use the camera. The picture quality isn't great either, but still manages to take a decent shot. The flash is also sufficient for close-dark shots.
Music Player - very laggy when trying to play and switch songs, but i use an iPod for most of my music needs.

4 out of 5 stars I just wanted a phone I could put music on from my computer   June 12, 2007
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Everything I wanted to say deals with the phones ability to play music. When I was looking for reviews I found it hard to find one that specifically said if you could put music on your phone from music files your computer. You can, but they have to be in .wma format. It won't play mp3's, which isn't that big of a deal. Also, it will say that you need to buy the USB adaptor stuff, which if you have a SD slot on your computer there is no need. All you have to do is put your microSD in your phone and try and play music. It will put the necessary folders on your microSD, at which point you put it in your SD adaptor and slide it into your SD slot on your computer and put the music files in the appropriate folders, by manually dragging and dropping.
