Your Mobal GSM World SIM card is registered in the UK. It always has a UK phone number, irrespective of the countries that you travel to. The UKOs country code is 44, therefore it is essential to include this country code when giving your new number to friends and colleagues outside of the UK. Of course, if they are calling you from the UK, the 44 will not be necessary; they can simply call the number in its local format.  Not worth it January 9, 2009
This product worked, but it's not really worth buying it unless you don't mind paying the $1.50 per minute to call the US. It is not possible to only use the $20 of free air-time because they have no way of stopping the calls. Activating the line requires a credit card. I would recommend buying a local pre-paid SIM card in the country you are travelling to, as it would be a lot cheaper than this.

Card worked well. Was able to get started and use my new phone while figured out what specific service to use in South America. A very good product for global coverage.

I set the account like the instructions said, only to find out that the calls would be routed through Great Britan which would make things more expensive. Since I purchased this with a Motorola Razr3 which does not allow the user to enter a plus sign as part of a phone number, dialing international numbers was impossible. So why use the SIM?

Pricey minutes? You bet. It's expensive enough in Europe, and don't even think about using this in the US -- though why anybody would I don't know.
But with those nosebleed-inducing per-minute rates, you're buying convenience. Unlike most other SIM cards you don't have to buy time you won't use, nor will you run it flat. You can tuck this card into your passport between trips, and it costs you nothing when you're not using it. Next trip you just pop it in the phone and go. It never expires (although after 18 months of inactivity, you have to call or email the company to revive it). It doesn't work in Japan or Korea, but then not many international SIM cards or phones do because those countries' systems are nonstandard.
Customer service? Here's my experience. The card arrived on 23 Dec 2008. My trip started on the 25th. When I tried to activate the account with Mobal on the 24th, they hit me with a notice that activation could take up to 5 days over the holidays! A call to their customer service number (note: not toll free) late that night yielded a promise that they'd process the request by the 26th. Sure enough, by the afternoon of the 26th (early morning in the US), the phone was working. Being up and running on the 25th would have been ideal, but I still consider that fairly decent service.
I emphasize that if you're a walkie-talkie, this is definitely not the right choice for you, unless you want a big business expense tax deduction. If you plan to chat up the crew at home as you see the sights, or have lots of friends overseas, do as others suggest and get a cheap country-specific prepaid SIM at a smoke shop or kiosk. (In all fairness I have to say that I was in Spain and saw rather few such offers. Others may know better than I where to look, though.)
If you use your phone just a little while traveling, and/or you don't want to try buying a SIM card in a language you don't fully understand, this card is one fairly easy answer.
It's not for everyone, but IMO such tags as "horrible" or "bad choice for travel" are unjustified. Just make sure you read the description carefully and know what you're getting.
