Amazon.com Product Description
BlueAnt's V1 is the world's first voice-controlled Bluetooth headset, allowing you to control most phone functions from the headset thanks to the integrated BlueGenie Voice Interface. Talk to it and it will reply, ask it for assistance and it will assist you in getting the right function. This amazingly small and lightweight headset eliminates the combinations of button pushes, button holds and flashing lights synonymous with advanced Bluetooth devices. One activation button provides you with total control of the V1's entire function menu system via an easy to use voice interface.

Control your phone's functions--including answering and making call--with the BlueAnt V1.
No longer will you have to deal with lengthy or confusing button pressing to access functionality on your cell phone. Instead, the V1 can be controlled with simple phrases like "pair headset," "call home," "volume up" and "accept call." And BlueGenie's voice synthesis capability enables the V1 to speak back to you, letting you know device settings including successful pairing of the headset, battery power level, and more. With voice dial and call answering capabilities, drivers can keep their hands on the steering wheel and eyes on the road.

The V1 also incorporates dual microphones allowing for BlueAnt's patented Voice Isolation Technology, a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) software solution that uses advanced techniques to separate the user's voice signal from all other sounds, enhancing and isolating all frequencies that affect voices coming into and out of the headset. This results in outstanding environmental noise reduction, echo cancellation and wind noise protection.

The BlueAnt V1 works with Bluetooth version 2.1 and its multi-point technology allows connecting two cell phones at the same time. Automatic reconnect also finds the last cell phone or device paired, and automatically reconnects. It includes several ear gels for an optimal in-ear fit, as well as an over-the-ear clip for added security. It also offers an innovative tie clip lets you attach the V1 headset to your shirt or cuff when not in use.

Features

  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • Multi-function car and desk charger

  • Up to 6 hrs talk-time or 200 hrs standby
  • 2 year replacement warranty

5 out of 5 stars No better Bluetooth   January 9, 2009
Buy this it doesn't disappoint! It is total hands free using voice commands for just about everything. Stays on your ear and very confortable. The sound quality is excellent. I use this with Blackberry Curve phone.

5 out of 5 stars Best So Far   January 9, 2009
Though at the time I purchased three (two for gifts) of the BlueAnt V1 headsets I was using the HTC S621 smartphone, I soon purchased RIM's BlackBerry Storm. I find the hearing portion of the sound quality is superior with the V1 than that of the Storm. I would prefer having slightly better fitting choices of ear buds yet the supplied ones suffice. I would purchase this particular unit again...

3 out of 5 stars Sound quality and comfort disappointing   January 9, 2009
After much praise in online articles and user ratings, I tried this headset after losing my Plantronics Voyager 510. In short, I am disappointed in the performance (especially for the price) and am returning it. Here are the reasons why:

When calling someone in my car -- windows up and no radio or other noises -- I was told it sounded like I was standing next to a waterfall. I called my home phone and left a voicemail to hear it for myself, and it's true -- it sounds like white noise along with a somewhat difficult-to-understand voice. It isn't bad enough for me to believe it's a defective product; I think it's just the quality of the design.

The sound cancelling also seems to not work particularly well -- when the radio was on, even at modest volume, the person with whom I was speaking said I should quit using the headset. Switching between minimum and maximum voice cancellation did nothing to make it easier to clearly hear what I was saying.

Some of the voice-activated features are handy, like when you say "check battery" and it tells you whether it's high, medium, or low. However, I found most voice commands unnecessary -- many cell phones have voice dialing, and they don't require certain phone numbers to be in certain speed-dial slots like the V1 does. Also, I'd rather not have to say "phone commands" and THEN talk to my phone -- I'd like to just talk to my phone, which I could do with the Plantronics headset with the push of a button (and you have to push a button with the V1 to give it a command anyway).

I also found answering a call by voice command difficult. I repeatedly told it to answer the call and it did nothing.

I thought the spoken caller ID would be handy, but it's so slow at giving you the number that you would miss the call by the time you found out who it was.

It also misunderstands voice commands at times, particularly if there is some ambient noise in your environment.

In addition, I found the headset getting uncomfortable after having it in my ear for only about a half hour. This may be alleviated by swapping out the default rubber earpiece for one of the others supplied in the package, but after the other struggles mentioned above, I decided it wasn't worth it to try and find a more comfortable fit (which, since this isn't a jawbone headset, would not have improved performance).

A minor annoyance, which some other reviewers have mentioned, is the large, bright, flashing BlueAnt button -- which you can turn off but apparently turns back on if you power the headset off and then on again. BlueAnt seems to want to advertise to the people around you that you're wearing a BlueAnt headset. :)

The only upside to this is that Amazon was good about allowing me to return the device for a full refund. I will be trying the Aliph Jawbone II next, and if it also fails to impress, I will be buying a new Plantronics Voyager 510 like my old one -- it sounded better than the V1, is more comfortable to wear, is easier to use, and costs about half as much.

5 out of 5 stars Works great - now!   January 7, 2009
Th'e blue Ant V1 works really well now. I had some trouble at first when I put a company sticker on the bottom of it. When I made calls no one could hear me. As a last resort before calling for a return authorization, I took the sticker off and it worked great! Nowhere in the documentation did it say that the microphones are on the bottom so don't put anything on the bottom of the little unit. Now, even when traveling on the highway, I'm told there's very little noise on the other end, so the noise reduction works great! Very good product.

4 out of 5 stars Great heatset, extremely easy to use   January 7, 2009
Received the BlueAnt V1 for Christmas after using other BT headsets for many years.

V1 is extremely easy to set-up and use! As advertised, the voice activated controls are super helpful.

Speaker quality is superb, and microphone quality is very good. There is a slight echo / hallow sound, but very clear.

Form factor is very small and incredibly light weight.
