The W810i follows a long tradition of beautifully designed and crafted phones from Sony Ericsson. The same candy-bar style that graced the W800 is here, as is the horizontally-oriented camera unit on the back of the phone, allowing you to hold the phone just as you would a camera when you're taking pictures. The W810i's screen sports 176 x 220 pixel resolution with support for 262,000 colors. Quick access buttons below the screen make it easy to control the phone's Walkman music features, while a five-way center button controls most of the phone's menus and features. The W810i contains 20 MB of embedded memory, but as mentioned, a Memory Stick Duo slot is provided, and it also supports Pro Duo cards, giving you storage capacities of 2 GB and beyond. The phone ships with a 128 MB Memory Stick Duo card. Of course, there's also a port for the phone's included stereo headset. USB and infrared data ports are provided, as well, and the phone supports USB mass storage so you can simply plug the phone into your computer and drag and drop files into the phone's memory using the included Disc2Phone PC application. The W810i's phone book can hold up to 1000 contacts with multiple entries per contact. A call list remembers your most recent missed, received and dialed calls. The phone's voice activated dialing makes calling your contacts as easy as saying their names, while the built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Polyphonic ringtones are included and you can also use MP3 and AAC music files as ringtones. A cool application called Music DJ even lets you mix your own ringtones. If you're looking for a mobile productivity partner, the W810i has you covered. Support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, and sound via MMS messages. The phone also ships with a built-in email client with support for POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP protocols, while the included Access NetFront Web Browser allows you to surf full HTML web sites. An included IM client supports AOL, Yahoo!, ICQ and MSN instant messaging services. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. I bought this phone after reading so many positive reviews, but I must say that I think them based on very low expectations! The Walkman function is supposedly the selling point of this phone, and given Sony's pedigree in this regard one might expect it to excel. However, after having enjoyed the usability of an ipod for so many years, I was rather shocked by the lack of usability here. Perhaps the worst thing about this phone (so bad because it is so basic) is that it will not list MP3s as albums. If like me you have a lot of compilation and mix albums, this is a serious headache. To deal with it I have had to duplicate my MP3 collection on my PC and change the artist tags to album tags. Why after all this time have they not done something so simple? The other great source of frustration is the amazingly slow transfer by cable - it takes HOURS to fill a reasonable-sized memory card!
The phone function is okay and the camera is not too bad. Many reviews have referred to the quality of the sound, but this reflects the headphones (try them on another player!) rather than the phone. In fact, the phone has an awful hiss at low volume levels.
If you are buying this for the Walkman function, think again. If you are buying it as a phone, don't pay too much.

Owned this phone for almost 2 years with Cingular/ ATT. Need to change it for a latest model. But this phone is so great that I wanted to review. Call quality is perfect than Motos, samsungs in its category. Physically dropped phone on hard concrete floors more than 5 times, but it kept working (which is the most I liked). It is sleek, stylish and fits in pocket. Photos and Video quality are great for a 2 MP camera which also has various shooting modes including B&W, Sepia, Night Shot, Flash etc. We can transfer music into memory stick and pump sound through its mega bass speakers when ever and where ever. FM radio is useful for those using headsets. We can use songs as ring tones or for alarm. It has a calander, to do list, wake up alarm, bright flash light, emergency SOS flashes , bluetooth -ofcourse, aeroplane mode music only feature, very impressive battery life. We can also have shortcuts or quick launch upto 4 features instantly. Overall , it has served me well, so far. The only "CONS" is, the phone needs to be always in locked mode at work since the external music are sensitive and can start the walkman if you have phone in pocket. Otherwise Highly recommended.

I have been using w810i since dec-2006, and didn't get no complain!!!
Its, really a good walman phone, I simply connect this to my Sony home theater and listen the best quality. I can say, its neither better than iPod nor bad when it comes to voice quality.
Well, the higher capacity memory cards make it slower, though. Its a good phone to have, if you need a 2MP Sony camera.

At first this phone was wonderful. Later I found it didn't have the memory to hold all the music I wanted. I've had this phone all of 10 months. During this time the charger and the USB cable have broken. Now some of my buttons will not work. Having a 1 yer warranty I called Sony and they are telling me the buttons aren't working because my phone has been wet. My phone has never been wet. Sony says there is a spot near the battery that changes color with moisture. Well needless to say, Sony now says my phone is void of warranty(because of the moisture that never happened) and the phone cannot be repaired. I am without a phone and now will not only have to purchase a new one but will get charged for upgrading my phone before my contract ends. I will not be purchasing another Sony phone.

The phone has done all that I had expected of it. I needed a reasonably sturdy phone (dropped on carpet a couple of times), with a good number of features. I love the Walkman and FM. I use this when I do not want to carry a separate mp3 player, and the quality of sound is brilliant, even with the stock headphones. The software is fairly easy to use once you get used to it also. The screen has remained scratch free so far!
The still pictures and video recordings are not very great, I expected just a little more, but I can certainly live with it. Wish Sony would not use Memory sticks, as they are a little more expensive than other formats.
ATT / Cingular, on the other hand would require a different review with some negative stars. The reception is not bad at all. It is their customer service and my initial experience of trying to upgrade to this phone where they simply refused to give us the rebates for now good reason that has frustrated me.
Overall: Phone Good. ATT Bad.
