The combination touchscreen, slider keyboard design of the Samsung Glyde provides a variety of ways of interacting with the phone's features. The large touch-enabled LCD measures 2.8 inches vertically and has a 240 x 440-pixel resolution and support for 262K colors. The front of the chassis has a single button (much like another, often talked about touchscreen phone), and the phone offers most of its controls via the touchscreen--which provides adjustable haptic vibrating feedback, so you know when you've pressed a button. The front of the Glyde's face slides open from the left side of the phone and it's easy to open and close with just one hand. When the keyboard is opened, the display automatically changes to landscape orientation. The keyboard offers no dedicated numbers, so you'll do your dialing via the numeric keypad that appears on the or touchscreen. The Glyde can store up to 500 contacts, with each entry able to store five phone numbers, two email addresses, notes, and a picture ID. It's compatible with saving contacts to groups and pairing contacts with a ringtone (polyphonic or real music ringer). The phone has a 45 MB internal memory, which is expandable via optional microSD memory cards (up to 8 GB in size). It also provides speaker-independent voice activated commands, including dial, menu readout, text message readout, and call announcement. Dont buy this piece of trash!!!If you did return it within the 30 day period.HURRY!There is a glitch with the screen after about one month the screen will not work properly.No matter where you touch it it will select whatever it wants.I went through 3 of them with the same problem in just over 2 months.Tech support says there will be a program to fix this at the end of the month but who wants to wait for this and pray it works?
I missed the 30 day return period and Verizon wanted to keep replacing this phone with the same model. After 3x I had enough. I had to fight like hell to get something else.Only after trying to cancel all 4 lines on my account did they break down and give me another model.I will still go to another company after my contracts all run out because of this piece of trash product and Verizons POOR cust service.Way to go jerks!

I'm actually using my mothers account,but thats beside the point. My mom bought me the Samsung Glyde for my birthday, and i loved it. I loved the touch screen, the QWERTY keyboard, its compact size. However, I am going to return it tomorrow for either the Dare or the Voyager. The Glyde does not let you record your own ringtones. You can record "sounds", but you cannot set them as a ringtone, from what I know, the only way to get a new ringtone is to purchase it. And many times,the touchscreen is either unresponsive, or it responds in a different way than you chose. For example, if I'm on the main menu, and I want to go to Get It Now, sometimes it will select Messaging, even when you clearly put your finger over Get It Now.
A lot of people make the Glyde sound much worse than it is. I've heard that the QWERTY keyboard is too small for some, but my fingers are still growing, so its fine for me;) The phone did take a lot of getting used to, as I had a Motorola Razr before upgrading. The phone gets very frustrating at points, as I said, sometimes it doesn't respond in the manner you would like. But overall, it isn't a terrible phone, I'm just looking for something different.

My husband informed me I could upgrade my old Razr phone so we went to the Verizon store and I had several picked out that were possibilies. As I looked over the vast array of phones that seemed too simple, too cheaply made, too expensive, etc. and I was going back and forth between a few models I happened to pick the Glyde up as it looked interesting and caught my attention. I loved the heftiness and the firm slide mechanism and it felt good in my hands! I do a lot of texting and the keyboard definitely caught my attention and the touch screen was a bonus I didn't expect. For such an integrated phone I was happy with the low price and after checking out the Voyager (which seemed flimsy) and the Dare (which had only a virtual keyboard and was much higher in price) I came back to the Glyde and told my husband I wanted it. I brought it home and it has been fun to use for the whole family. It is very easy to use and YES it does have a problem with the touch screen at times as it may not respond to the first or second contact. The rep told me there is a new upgrade to download at the main Verizon stores so we will be getting that done soon.
I am very happy with the phone and feel a tiny bit guilty for splurging but I know I will have it for over 2 years so it works out to less than $8 per month to own it not including the monthly bill.

I am currently on my second Samsung Glyde. The phone has excellent features, but the touch screen is questionable at best. My first phone was less than a month old when the touch screen started registering taps on it's own to the point that the phone was unusable. The screen would often only register taps at the bottom of the screen, regardless of where I actually tapped. Eventually, sitting on the table by itself, it would register taps, navigate menus, and even occasionally make calls, all without being touched. I couldn't read or send text messages, or even make or receive calls, because these "phantom taps" would navigate the phone away from whatever I tried to do.
Having said that, my replacement Glyde has thus far worked as it should, and I am once again enjoying the good points of this phone, the html browser, QWERTY keyboard, and the excellent definition of the 2.8" screen. If the "phantom taps" should return, I will update this review, in the hopes that it will help some other poor soul from enduring a most frustrating problem.

I got the Glyde when I walked into Verizon for the third time with my old Samsung Gleam. They did an exception and let me switch phones so I decided to go with the Glyde because it seemed so advanced for a phone. Plus it would be my first time using a touch screen. While I've always feared touch screen phones (iPhone for example), I figured, why not give it a try. So I did.
The features of the phone were so ridiculously nice - the ambience of the phone, the way it would stretch out my photos to fit the screen so perfectly...but two things irritated me and from what I have read in other reviews, have also irritated most others.
The touch screen itself: It sucks. You can put it on high or low, it's still sensitive enough where even if it's in my purse, it will unlock itself from the touch. I've had my ear dial phone numbers for me, and everytime I text using the touch screen, I end up writing gibberish because the phone doesn't recognize what letter I am dialing. I have no choice but to use the keyboard to write texts. And having to use the touch screen to do everything rather then the keyboard like in the LG EnV has been getting nothing but frustrating for me when the touch screen interface freezes up.
I don't have much problems with the keyboard, but frankly, I was faster with my Flipshot then with the Glyde, and the Flipshot does not even have a keyboard! About 2 weeks after I got the phone, it froze up so bad it would not even power off!! Plus the battery would die half the day after a full charge. I went to Verizon and they gave me a new one which is better. The phone does not die in one days so the battery life is a lot longer. But the phone will freeze from time to time and I'm frustrated having to press the Home key everytime i need to take the phone out of hibernation, or when I need to make and end a call.
Other then that, the features on it are pretty cool. But unfortunately, I can't return it. I'd have to wait until my New Every Two which won't be until next September.
I am not getting another touch screen phone. I'll stick to my clamshells that have the same features as the Glyde does and can actually be closed without pressing ONE freaking button!!!
